Stallion/Mare Performance Test (AU)
As part of the National Tour, several informal information evenings will be held in all states where discussion will take place on proposed stallion and mare performance testing to suit breed groups and registries within Australia. Dates for the information evenings will be advised upon finalisation of the Tour itinerary later this year.
The proposed performance testing platform will be loosely based on the European model for performance testing of stallions and mares. A performance test acknowledges that the stallion/mare has a high standard of conformation and movement which has been achieved through an independent assessment process and has shown both rideability and trainability by attaining a certain standard under saddle through a conformation assessment, performance record and a ridden test.
When a performance test is successfully achieved, the title can be recorded in online stud books, allowing potential breeders and buyers to see at a glance that the stallion or mare has successfully completed the performance test.
Breed stud books may be interested in adopting the performance testing platform which can adjust to suit their own stud book and breed standard requirements.
The proposed stallion and mare performance testing for Australia offers breeders the opportunity to participate in an independent evaluation system to both assess and promote their breeding programs while also allowing the opportunity to add a quantifiable achievement for their stallions and mares.
